Nadia Fernández de Pinedo
PhD from the University of the Basque Country and Associate Professor of Economic History, specialising in Latin America, at the Department of Economic Analysis, Economic Theory and Economic History at the Autonomous University of Madrid. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Warwick. Her academic contributions focus on colonial trade, fiscal policies, technology transfer, and the socio-economic impacts of early globalisation, particularly patterns of consumption. She has published widely and participated in numerous international academic collaborations, notably the ERC-GECEM project Global Encounters between China and Europe: Trade Networks, Consumption and Cultural Exchanges in Macau and Marseille (1680–1840).
Aurelio Antelo Collado
Industrial Engineer, graduated in 1995 from the University of Cienfuegos (UCF), Cuba. Holds a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from UCF (2000) and a PhD in Technical Sciences, specialising in Computer Science, from the University of Information Sciences (UCI, Cuba) in 2022. He is an Assistant Professor of Programming Techniques in the programmes of Computer and Bioinformatics Engineering. He has led several national and international software development projects and held managerial positions at UCI’s Software Development Centre. He is a member of the Bioinformatics scientific line and currently Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Technologies at UCI.
Luis Augusto Arias Verdecia
Graduate in Education, specialising in History, from the University of Granma (Cuba, 2000). Master’s in Education from the Enrique José Varona University of Pedagogical Sciences (UCPEJV, Havana, 2010) and PhD in Educational Sciences, specialising in Educational Technology, awarded jointly by UCI and UCPEJV (2022). Assistant Professor of History. His research includes the use of historical sources related to Cuban maritime history between 1920 and 1930. He leads the History and Technology Research Group, with publications and participation in national and international events that highlight the use of technology as a tool for working with historical-social knowledge sources. He was Head of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Faculty 4 and is currently Director of History at the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI). He also coordinates a PhD programme in Science, Technology and Society Studies in collaboration with the University of Cienfuegos “Carlos Rafael Rodríguez”.
Pedro Luis Basulto Ramírez
Graduate in Education, specialising in Marxism and History, from the Instituto Superior Pedagógico Blas Roca Calderío (2000). Holds a Master’s in Social Issues of Science and Technology (University of Havana, 2008) and a PhD in Sciences (Dr. C) from the University of Seville (2021). Professor of Social Sciences at UCI, Cuba. He has served in various leadership roles including Director of History and Marxism, Dean of the Faculty of Interactive Technologies, General Coordinator for the ALBET enterprise in Venezuela, and Vice-Rector for University Extension. Currently leads the research line on Social Impact and Challenges of ICTs.
Mirian Galante Becerril
PhD in History from the Autonomous University of Madrid. She was trained at the American Studies Group of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), where she worked for over a decade. She is currently a lecturer in the Area of the Americas within the Department of Modern History at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, Autonomous University of Madrid. Her main line of research focuses on the legal-political history of Mexico (18th–20th centuries), a context from which she has historically reflected on debates, experiences, and representations of modernity in Latin America. She has numerous publications and has participated in international conferences. She is currently the principal investigator of the national research project HeterQuest.net: Heterogeneity in Question: Crossed Knowledges and Practices in Law, Indigenism and the Social (PID2019-107783GB-100) and leads the interdisciplinary research group GEISAL – Interdisciplinary Studies on Latin America at the Autonomous University of Madrid..
Yanio Hernandez Heredia
Computer Engineer, graduated in 2007 from the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI), Cuba. He holds a Master’s degree in Applied Informatics from UCI (2010) and a PhD in Technical Sciences, specialising in Computer Science, jointly awarded by UCI and the University of Málaga (2013). He is a Full Professor of Programming Techniques in the programmes of Computer Engineering and Cybersecurity at UCI, and a research associate at the University of Málaga.He has extensive professional experience leading various national and international software development projects. Within UCI, he has held leadership positions at the Software Development Centre in the areas of Geoinformatics and Digital Signal Processing. He also served as Dean of Faculty 2, Vice-Rector for Software Production, and later as First Vice-Rector. He is currently the coordinator of the scientific line Artificial Intelligence and Pattern Recognition, and serves as President of the Interface of Science and Technology Society (KAINOS S.A.) at UCI. His career has consistently combined scientific research, academic teaching, and strategic leadership in technological innovation.
Yosvany Márquez Ruiz
Computer Engineer, graduated in 1995 from the José Antonio Echeverría Higher Polytechnic Institute (ISPJAE), now known as the José Antonio Echeverría Technological University of Havana (CUJAE). He has nearly thirty years of experience in information technologies and software development. Over the course of his career, he has held various technical and leadership roles, including software programmer, project manager, software architect, and, more recently, DevOps engineer. Since 2009, he has been part of the academic staff at the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI), where he teaches subjects in the areas of Programming Techniques, Software Engineering, Databases, and Professional Practice within the Computer Engineering programme. Institutionally, he has served as Director of the Centre for E-Government Software Development (CEGEL, UCI) in 2012 and as Head of the Technical Production Department of the General Directorate of Production (DGP, UCI) in 2018, consolidating his role in the strategic direction of technological initiatives. He currently leads the Centre for Software Development for Data Representation and Analysis (CREAD, UCI), which focuses on innovative solutions for data processing and visualisation. His career reflects an integration of teaching, research, technical leadership, and the management of multidisciplinary teams, with a proven impact on six major national projects.
Manuel Avelino Ricardo Hidalgo
Orlando Gabriel Toledano
PhD in Technical Sciences (2023), Master in Advanced Informatics (2018), and Computer Science Engineer (2015), all awarded by the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI), Cuba. Since 2015, he has served as a professor in the Programming discipline, teaching courses on Data Structures, Algorithms, and Object-Oriented Programming, as well as the elective subject Spatial Data Structures. He has held the academic rank of Assistant Professor since 2019. He has also delivered postgraduate courses, including as lead instructor of Introduction to Big Data with Apache Spark, within UCI’s International Winter and Summer Schools and special editions. He currently works as Methodological Advisor in the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation. He is the author of over twenty scholarly works, including journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters. In 2023, he was awarded the National Prize of the Cuban Academy of Sciences in the area of Technical Sciences. He is a member of the Cuban Association for Pattern Recognition (ACRP) and the Cuban Union of Computer Scientists (UIC).
